I don’t know about you, but when I’m going to the gym to use the treadmills or strength train I need a really good Playlist to get me in the mood for the workout. Music allows me to forget the burn and helps makes the time pass, I just love to get lost in it! I have curated a Playlist for you to help give you the motivation to complete your workout or even just to get up and go! Use it in good health.

Rejuvenate your skin the affordable way

Winter is upon us which means dry patchy skin amongst other concerns. For me I find that my skin is usually at its worst in the winter because it gets constantly beaten by the elements. However, one thing I did find that works for me is to incorporate Argan Oil into my skincare routine. It’s a super moisturizing and thick oil that also combats anti-aging. Depending on the severity of my skin I might use it as a nighttime serum or mix a few drops in with my daytime serum. I’m a big fan of Josie Maran’s Argan Oil it’s in a large bottle, but it goes a long way. BONUS: It can also be used on your cuticles AND your split ends. It really is a necessity in your Regimen.

For those of you who are big fans of all natural at home remedies this one is for you. To create a cheap detoxifying and cleansing face mask i’ve been combining 1/2 tsp of Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay and two capsules of Activated Charcoal pills (mix with 1 1/2 tsp of water.) Both of which can be found on Amazon.com. The purpose of this mask is to remove dirt from your pores as well as helps to eliminate blackheads, and clear up pimples. One thing to note, when the mask begins drying on your skin it does start getting uncomfortably itchy but i promise if you stick with it for 20 minutes you won’t be sorry. Once you rinse the mask with warm water you can feel the difference right away, your skin feels tighter and detoxed. When you wake up the next day you feel as if you have slept with an incredible serum on, your skin feels like velvet. Thank me later!

What’s in my Makeup Bag?

When it comes to makeup I prefer looking my most natural. During the day I typically don’t use makeup, but say I have a daytime event my go to is light coverage. At night I follow the same principals but tend to pack on the glam by adding a little blush and shimmery eyeshadow. I’m a big fan of trying new products, a product-aholic if you will, but lately i’ve been completely obsessed with a new array of products that give me that dewey glow thats been so popular these days.

To achieve the dewey look I use the Becca Cosmetics Backlight Priming Filter as my base then apply their Aqua Luminous Perfecting Foundation using the beauty blender makeup sponge. This provides me with even yet light coverage with a pretty glow. On my temples and cheekbones I apply the Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizing Wand which I would say is the best find EVER. It is a highlighter stick with argan oil in it so it aids in moisturizing the skin while helping keep those fine lines at bay. If I’m going for the sun kissed look I might swipe some bronzer on my cheeks and forehead, I typically use Tom Ford Bronzing Powder which is more matte.

Getting in shape for 2017

I don’t know about you, but I prefer to stay beach body ready throughout the year. I believe in looking after yourself in that respect because it keeps you on a routine and clears your mind. As of lately, I have been mixing up my fitness regime. I don’t just stick to one type of workout, I like to vary from day to day. Throughout the week I incorporate cardio, strength training, and a lengthening element. It helps me achieve the results I want both physically and mentally. The types of workouts I do might be a barre type or pilates which is still strength work but it helps lengthen those muscles that you could potentially bulk up by doing a HIIT workout and focuses on tiny muscles that you wouldn’t otherwise pay attention to. For my cardio I am a big fan of hiking which is also an activity I share with my dogs. I like to get them out and active too so I try and hit the trails whenever possible. I also prefer a Barry’s Bootcamp or Burn 60 class (unique to LA) for the treadmill usage and weight training aspects as well as boxing which is all core and an intense amount of endurance.

Overall my mantra is; do what you enjoy! If it seems like a chore it will be harder to find the motivation to get yourself up and out of the house. Once you establish the routine of sweating once a day you will find yourself up for the challenge of trying a class or activity outside of your comfort zone.

Classes I enjoy on both coasts:

New York:

Bari: This class has everything you’d ever want. There are several different types of classes within the studio that you can choose from but all classes incorporate some form of cardio. I typically go for the Micro class because it is complete toning while still getting a bit of cardio in there. But you can also choose between trampoline cardio classes, and dance routines etc

Gotham: Great boxing gym with some great instructors, they also offer a HIIT/Barre class which is the perfect cardio/toning class.

New York Pilates: Self-explantory but they offer a multitude of classes that focus on different parts of the body (all on a reformer)

SLT: I like to call this pilates on steroids. The class is done on a megaformer which is a step up from a reformer where its highly resisted machines with a constant cardio element.

Xtend Barre: This is my favorite barre class ever! They do weighted lunges and squats as well as incorporate some cardio into the class. Its an extremely well-rounded class. https://www.xtendbarre.com

Los Angeles:

Ballet Bodies: The ultimate in sculpting classes. You focus on all those tiny muscles by using repetitive movements. A gem of a class!

Barry’s Bootcamp: This class is on both coasts. I go to this one when I want to really challenge myself. Every day they focus on a different body part and your breaks are spent interval running on the treadmill. This class is high on strength training using heavy weights.

Body by Simone: This class is fun and challenging.  Its dance cardio with intervals of toning in-between. She really emphasizes on achieving a dancer’s body.

Burn 60: This class is similar to barry’s bootcamp only for the strength portion they use kettlebells, bosu balls, and TRX. Its quite unique and extremely challenging. You receive no rests so your heart rate is always up.

LA Street Style

I’ve always been a big fan of dressing for comfort with a slight sexy edge to it (and if you’ve read my blogs before you’d know how much I stress comfort as a priority.) Which is why I love the dress code in LA. All you really need are a good pair of jeans (black and/or denim) ripped or pristine. A good flannel or maybe even a Canadian Tuxedo (denim shirt- because why not) could also go a long way. The combinations are endless. This look can take you from day into night with a heeled bootie or what i call my “magic shoes”. I’ve been very into glittered or patterned heeled booties lately, with a simple outfit on they are the star of the show.

In LA its all about sex appeal in the way of not trying too hard. I always go with the less is more approach, and I don’t mean less clothing. Less is more meaning simple but tasteful, with a pop of color or pattern whether it be the bag, a scarf, or the shoes. So when you are planning your next trip to LA and don’t know what to bring, i hope this gives you some direction!

Holiday Gift Guide

Season’s greetings everyone!  I cannot believe how fast this year has flown by.  I feel like just yesterday we were ringing in 2016 and here we are approaching the holidays once again.

With the holiday’s sneaking up on us, it’s time to get shopping!  As soon as I polished off my last plate from my Thanksgiving feast (of course I had more than one) I started to think about whom I needed to buy for.  Below are my picks for friends and family, hopefully it helps you too!

For the fitness fanatic…

For the fitness obsessed in my life (and there are a lot) I will be giving them my FAVORITE water bottle’s by S’well.  The bottles are so cute and come in a million colors, patterns and sizes. They’re the perfect accessory for any workout and the technology they use makes it so your water stays cold for up to 24 hours.

For the foodie….

I love a home cooked meal so for my foodie friends I’ll be giving ‘The Blue Apron Experience’ package from Blue Apron.  Blue Apron is an incredible subscription service that delivers fresh ingredients with coordinating recipes to your doorstep.  This package that they’ve created includes a gift card for a week of meals + wine and other goodies and is the ultimate treat for the food obsessed.

For the man in your life…

Anyone who knows me knows I’m obsessed with playing backgammon!  I think a little friendly competition is great in a relationship so a really nice backgammon set is my pick for your boyfriend.  You can go out any night, but nothing beats a night in with a glass of wine and some gaming.

game

For your parents…

When I go home to visit my parents I love to cuddle up on their couch and revert to being a kid.  There’s something about going home (even if it isn’t the home you grew up in) that makes you want to just hang out and unplug.  This year I’ll be gifting a monogrammed cashmere throw that will be a perfect addition to the TV room.  Nothing wrong with giving a gift that you are able to use as well.

How to: Transition from Summer to Fall

The leaves are starting to change and the air is feeling crisp, welcome to my favorite season…FALL.

I love the fall; Halloween, football games, apple picking, Thanksgiving and everything in between. I’m lucky to be able to experience it when I am in New York or working around the country and because of that it is time to make a few slight changes in my wardrobe to bring my summer looks into the right season.

My daily looks are based on my go-to style motto of “comfort with a touch of sex appeal” and this new season is no different. Layering is KEY for the fall and a lifesaver when the temperature is so unpredictable. This year I’m really into bomber jackets and oversized sweaters that can be thrown over almost any look. The bomber jacket is a little more polished for meetings and such while an oversized sweater is perfect for a casual afternoon.

My next pick is a skinny or silk scarf. I love a heavy scarf in the winter but for fall a light scarf is a great addition to your look. These scarves are great to wrap around your neck when you start to feel a chill or super chic to tie on the handle of your purse when you don’t need it for warmth.

My last, and probably favorite, fall transition piece is over-the-knee boots. I’ll be bringing my uniform of denim skirts + bodysuits into the fall and this style of boot is the perfect swap out for the sneakers I pair with it in the warmer months. Over-the-knee boots are sexy but also functional because they keep your legs warm when the weather drops.

I hope these tips have been helpful to you all as the weather changes, and don’t forget to click the photos for my personal picks for the season!

In-Flight Travel Essentials

As someone who lives a bicoastal life, I spend A LOT of time on airplanes. While some people don’t love airports, I secretly do. I love the people watching and the air of excitement that you feel the moment you walk in the door. With that said, there are some essentials that I need to have with me in order to make my flying experience a positive one, feel free to click the photos to buy my favorite things for yourself.

  1. An eye mask is a must for me. I like to try and catch up on sleep while I fly and nothing is more confusing than waking up and seeing a stranger. A sleep mask helps for that.Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 4.45.07 PM

  1. A cashmere blanket is the ultimate luxury and makes you feel cozy and comfortable even when you’re squeezed into those tiny seats. Lately, I’ve been loving one by Skull Cashmere because it is chic and folds up small to fit in any carry on.

  1. My iPad is always in my carry on for long trips. It’s nice to be in the air without distractions, and I always get my best reading done up there.

Screen Shot 2016-08-16 at 4.48.33 PM

  1. Lip balm is a must when flying because the air is so drying and no one wants to land with severely chapped lips. My favorites are from Carmex and La Mer.

  1. I like to use a hydrating face mask when I fly because it keeps my skin from drying up and saves my pores from the recirculated air.

  1. Last but certainly not least, I am all for wet wipes when I travel. You never know who was sitting in your seat before you and as someone who is always on the go I try to avoid getting sick as much as possible. A quick wipe down of the arm rests and tray table makes me feel better as I settle in.

Now it’s time to jet, hope this helps you when you’re packing for your next getaway!

New York Food Guide

Screen Shot 2016-08-03 at 1.01.30 PM

While I’ve been spending most of my time lately in Los Angeles for work, I’ll always be an east coast girl at heart. I spent the majority of my childhood growing up in New Jersey and attended college in lower Manhattan so I cherish the time I get to spend back east. While LA may have the Mexican food and fresh fish on lockdown, there are some things that are just better in NY. So with that said, here are my fave things to eat while in New York City…

  1. Smoothies at Terri. On both coasts I favor a smoothie to start my day. I like that they’re filling but light, and leave you with just enough energy to get your day going. While in NY, I love the “Terri Berri” smoothie from Terri in the financial district. It combines a mix of berries plus soy milk that is the perfect, refreshing drink that doesn’t weigh me down.

  1. Sushi and sashimi at Lure Fishbar. Let me just say that Lure Fishbar may be my favorite restaurant in all of Manhattan. The fish is always fresh and the décor inside is just so cute. They also make a mean bloody mary and their deviled eggs are something that I literally dream about. Basically, you should do yourself a favor and dine there the next time you’re in NYC (maybe you’ll even see me there.)

  1. Pollo alla parmigiana at Casa Nonna. My ideal night includes chicken parm, a good glass of wine and then home to a movie on my couch and there is no better place to start this perfect evening then at Casa Nonna. It’s old school Italian and the service is perfection and it doesn’t get much more NY than that.

  1. Cheeseburgers at P.J. Clarke’s. Sometimes a girl just needs a burger and fries and there is no better place to indulge when in NYC. Their new downtown location is perfect for a lazy Sunday spent outside with friends and I love how their burgers are so classic yet so good. I’m pretty sure the saying “if it aint broke don’t fix it” was made for the burgers there.
